Whether you're building, remodeling, or just curious about all this home entertainment business, one thing's for sure, there's a lot to get excited about! Regardless of how large or small your ideas are, we would like the opportunity to spend some time with them; to listen to what you want to accomplish and to show you what is possible. It's been over 20 years since I came to Tallahassee to finish school and begin working in the audio and video business (back then there was no such thing as home theater). After graduating, I decided to stay with it since music had always been an important part of who I was. In 1988, 9 years after my start, I took a leap of faith and started Jim Gray Designs; the following year I became an early member of CEDIA (Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association). We were pretty small in those days, but what we lacked in size, we made up for in our passion and commitment. We believed we could bring something entirely unique to this new industry we called custom; that we had a better way to connect people with technology, to give them the excitement and goose-bump experiences that we were designing for ourselves in our own homes, and we would talk to anyone who would listen! Interestingly enough, my first home is now our showhome and it's filled with some of the coolest entertainment and automation that you've ever seen! A lot has changed since 1979, but one thing that has remained constant is our commitment to doing our best; to bring to everyone we can that same experience we get when we sit down to listen to great music or watch a classic movie, catch a sporting event or play back a home video of the family. After all, it's not really about the technology, it's about the experience we have with the technology that counts. It can expand our world, our quality of life and keep us connected with the really important things going on. Then again, a little escape can be a good thing too! I guess I should mention that we partner with companies that share our passion for what we do. They say you are only as good as the quality of the company you keep and we keep company with some of the very best - they take care of us so we can take care of you! As we say goodbye to the 20th century and look forward to what the next century may bring, we are confident we're on the right track, with the right philosophy behind us: deliver a superior product and service at a fair price and do a little more than is expected. That's the attitude we try to bring to our work everyday. I hope this brings us a little closer to working together and gives you some insight into where we came from and where we're going.
